MITCHELL TENPENNY PERFORMS NO. 1 HIT “DRUNK ME” ON NBC’S TODAY

Powerhouse vocalist and country music breakout starMitchell Tenpenny made his national television debut today on NBC’s TODAY Show with a performance of his No. 1 single “Drunk Me,” from his debut album Telling All My Secrets (Riser House/Columbia Nashville). The 11-song project which released December 14 earned Tenpenny the best country first-week showing for a major label debut album this year, amassing 20,000 units. Watch the performance here

Prior to his performance, TODAY hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer surprised Tenpenny with a plaque to celebrate the song’s Platinum certification by the RIAA. “Drunk Me,” which The New York Times named one of the Best Songs of the Year (all genres) and made multiple Amazon Music “Most Played” and “Best Of” year-end lists, fueled a breakout year for Tenpenny, who not only co-wrote the track with Jordan Schmidt and Justin Wilson, but also served as co-producer.

This week, “Drunk Me” achieves the No. 1 position on Nielsen’s Country On-Demand Audio Stream chart. Now totaling over 150 million streams, “Drunk Me” officially impacted country radio on March 26, garnering 60 combined Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase stations. With 52 Mediabase adds, this cinched Tenpenny’s impact add week total to be the best for a country debut single in two years. In fact, the last country artist to achieve this many impact week adds was Tenpenny’s label mate Maren Morris with her debut single, “My Church” in January 2016. Upon its release, “Drunk Me” also made chart history by achieving the highest entry ever for a new artist on Nielsen’s On Demand Audio Core Country Streaming chart. The single debuted at No. 39 with a total of 1.5 million streams.

The buzz around Tenpenny continues to build, as he was recently named one of Pandora’s Artists to Watch in 2019 and a MusicRow 2019 Next Big Thing honoree. The singer/songwriter’s next single “Alcohol You Later” impacts at country radio later this month.

Recently, Tenpenny announced taking the celebration of his album release to the people who have supported him all along: the fans. His “Telling All My Secrets Album Release Tour” launched December 8, in Rome, Georgia and continues through February 1 with stops in 11 cities with special guests, up-and-coming artists Adam Hambrick, Seaforth and Ross Ellis. RYAN HURD WELCOMES 2019 WITH FOUR SOLD-OUT SHOWS, HIGH-PROFILE “ONES TO WATCH” RECOGNITION

RCA Nashville’s Ryan Hurd is kicking off 2019 in style, topping the bill for four sold-out shows while his new single – “To a T” – hit No. 1 on the SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown and is set to hit local radio airwaves next month.

Hurd will headline capacity performances in Los Angeles (1/17), New York City (1/25), Chicago (2/23) and Nashville (2/28) at legendary venues The Troubadour, Bowery Ballroom, Joe’s on Weed, and Exit/In, respectively. To celebrate the anticipated tour, Hurd debuted new release “Michigan for the Winter” today (1/4) on all digital retailers and streaming platforms. Listen and download here.

Meanwhile, the rough-cut romantic has been tapped by AOL as one of their country artists set for a breakout year, and was the genre’s only artist named to SiriusXM’s “Future Five” class of newcomers.

Those aren’t the only media gatekeepers paying attention. Praise for “To a T” has poured in, with Amazon Music including the “gorgeous ode to intimacy” (Wide Open Country) in its year-end Best Of list. Cowboys & Indians lauded the “swoon-worthy lyrics” and The Boot opined the track “oozes romance, love and the intimacy that comes from truly knowing a partner.”

The acclaim is earned. The native of Kalamazoo, MI is one of Nashville’s most multi-dimensional young songwriters. He has co-penned some of the format’s biggest hits including “Lonely Tonight” (Blake Shelton), “You Look Good” (Lady Antebellum), and “Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset” (Luke Bryan).

With the release of his own music, fans are discovering the fuel that drives Hurd is often love with all its avatars. Inspiration is in close proximity. “I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie
Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie
Daddy did too, it’s family tradition
When someone cranks it up, you can’t help but listen
My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing
And I gotta give props to the radio, ‘cause if you know me
I was raised on country”

“This song is a country anthem and so much fun,” shared Young. “I couldn’t be happier to kick off a brand new year with brand new music I love this much.”

Over the last three weeks leading up to the release of “Raised On Country,” Young offered fans the chance to vote on artists to cover and he gave weekly acoustic performances of “Silver Wings” (Merle Haggard), “Chattahoochee” (Alan Jackson), “The Fireman” (George Strait) and “ Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox ” (Joe Diffie). During his career thus far, he has had the honor of recording with Willie Nelson – “Rose In Paradise” found on Young’s Platinum certified The Man I Want To Be – and Alan Jackson – “There’s A New Kid In Town” found on Young’s first-ever holiday album It Must Be Christmas. He’s also had the opportunity to tour with both Alan Jackson and George Strait.

The “boundary-breaking country star” (AP) is one of eight entertainers spanning a range of actors, comedians and musicians whose distinguished work earned them a spot on the annual year-end list, with the AP noting “it is hard to imagine what entertainment might have looked like without them in 2018.”

Brown is the only country artist to be recognized on the list, which includes film stars Awkwafina and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Golden Globe nominee Elsie Fisher, Award-winning Comedian Hannah Gadsby, Grammy nominee Ella Mai, Actress and Producer Natasha Rothwell (HBO’s Insecure) and Actor and Producer John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman). Luke Combs is nominated for Best New Artist at the 61st GRAMMY Awards. The live awards ceremony will be broadcast on CBS from Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm CT.

The recognition adds to an already monumental year for the breakthrough singer, songwriter and performer, who recently won New Artist of the Year at “The 52nd Annual CMA Awards.” Additionally, Comb’s Platinum-certified debut album, This One’s For You, is Billboard’s Top Country Album of 2018 (River House Artists/Columbia Nashville). Since its release June 2, 2017—79 weeks ago—the album has spent a total of 20 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, including 16 weeks in 2018—the most of any album this year. The only other country album to achieve 16 weeks at No. 1 in a calendar year is Chris Stapleton’s Traveller.  The first four singles—3x Platinum “Hurricane,” 2x Platinum “When It Rains It Pours,” Platinum “One Number Away” and Platinum “She Got The Best of Me”—have all reached No. 1 making Combs the first solo artist to score four consecutive career-opening No. 1’s on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Moreover, his new single, “Beautiful Crazy,” is the first country single shipped to radio already Platinum-certified since Taylor Swift’s “Red” in 2013.

Combs will embark on his largest North American headline tour in 2019. After selling out the “Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour” spring leg, Combs recently confirmed select summer shows, including Columbia, MD’s Merriweather Post Pavilion, Gilford, NH’s Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion and Alpharetta, GA’s Verizon Amphitheater. Once again, Combs’ official fanclub, The Bootleggers, will have first access to tickets through a Ticketmaster Verified Fan pre-sale, which begins Wednesday (12/12) with general on-sale starting Friday (12/14). “2018 has been a big year” after the “high-energy five-piece band” (Rolling Stone) closed out the first leg of their debut headlining run in front of a sold-out crowd at Nashville’s Cannery Ballroom on Friday (12/7); the same building where they signed their record deal on the spot with Sony Music Nashville six years ago. While “dazzling thousands” (Hits Magazine) the “arena-rock leaning band” (Entertainment Weekly) is “at the top of their game” (Pitchfork) and has rapidly created a loyal fanbase with more than 400 shows as the featured act and with sold-out club runs in major markets such as New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Coincidentally, the hometown show fell nearly a year after the 2x Platinum single “Greatest Love Story” became a multi-week chart topper followed by the release of their No. 1 selling debut album HALLELUJAH NIGHTS. Both pivotal moments were historical in Country music as Lancaster became the first artist in 10 years to have a No. 1 on the chart solely written by that artist while LANCO serves as the first Country group in a decade to appear at the top of the Billboard Country albums chart with a debut album, which now boasts over 423 million streams. “2018’s best Country debut album” (Tampa Bay Times), paved the course for national television performances including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, TODAY, The Bachelor and Dancing With The Stars. LANCO “won admirers among its peers” (Billboard) as they earned nominations this year from the ACM, CMT, CMA and American Music Awards and Lancaster became the first member of a group to ever win NSAI’s “Songwriter/Artist of the Year.” Their distinct southern storytelling with a modern punch of rock and roll continues to unravel as they head back to the studio with award-winning producer Jay Joyce to begin recording their sophomore album.
